GRAMMAR POINT

We use comparatives with the…, the…. in a special way, to say that two changes happen together. These sentences begin with a comparative construction, and thus the second clause must also begin with a comparative:

The comparative + subject,   the comparative + subject + verb

EXAMPLES

The larger the mass, the larger is stellar property the temperature and pressure in the core.

The larger the mass, the shorter the stellar lifetime is.

1)    Чем больше столкновений, тем быстрее протекает реакция.

2)    Чем меньше алгебраическая величина потенциала, тем выше восстановительная способность металла.

3)    Чем выше температура, тем выше давление.

4)    Чем выше температура, тем сильнее колебания атомов.

5)    Чем сильнее колебания атомов, тем меньше электропроводность.

6)    Чем ниже температура, тем выше электропроводность.

7)    Чем меньше атомная масса элемента-металла, тем меньше его плотность.
