This study addresses the issues of current state of and trends in the fastest growing area of power industry: renewable energy sources. It shows that the driving force that makes the state develop renewable energy is the necessity to ensure its resource security, energy security and environmental safety as well as various aspects of the development of high-end innovative renewable energy technologies. The study provides detailed analysis of international practices concerning legislation aimed to support the development of renewable energy as well as legal framework for renewable energy adopted lately in Russia. It summarizes the most advanced engineering data, designs and units meant for the use of certain types of renewable energy and measuring methods for these. In order to create reliable power supply system here is provided a classification of types and accumulation principles for renewable energy, including hydraulic. This study presents methods of combined use of energy from renewable sources for independent power supply systems. It suggests modern methods and ways of exploitation and management of wind power units in grid and distributed generation. This book is intended for the expert community interested in the development and advanced conversion technologies of renewable energy that wish to know why this area of power industry is growing rapidly showing unique deployment results abroad and why at the same time its growth in Russia is far less robust.
